Gov’t, MILF fail to approve remaining annexes on power sharing

The 40th round of exploratory Talks between the negotiating panels of the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front held in Kuala Lumpur.

The 40th phase of talks end without signing a deal on power-sharing and normalization. Proposed changes to the annex – both from the government and the MILF – extend discussions, described to be “generally constructive” during this round.

The panels decided to extend the session for one more day, where both parties felt that it was unlikely a document would be signed and completed this round. The 40th round of peace talks opened, with the government peace panel nearly missing their flight to Kuala Lumpur after President Aquino called for an emergency meeting following the siege of Zamboanga City.
