On December 30, 1967, anywhere from 135 (Aquino’s count) to 180 (Oropesa’s count), recruits boarded a Philippine Navy vessel in Simunul bound for Corregidor. For two days and one night, the troops sailed from the southernmost tip of the Philippines to Corregidor. They spent the New Year at sea and reached the island off Cavite on January 3, 1968
