A member of the Abu Sayyaf group was killed and one soldier injured when the army rescued three teachers that were being held for a ransom. Around 60 schools were closed in Mindanao as more than 2000 teachers launched a protest, fearing they might be the next kidnap victims (Reuters, 07/04/95).
