A gun battle between members of the Abu Sayyaf group and security forces on Basilan Island resulted in the deaths of 15 rebels and 7 soldiers. The government states that the Sayyaf group has links with Ramzi Ahmed Yousef who is on trial in New York in connection with the World Trade Center bombing (Reuters, 06/07/95).
