A government minister says the Abu Sayyaf group is deeply opposed to peace talks and it has put mainstream MNLF leader Nur Misuari on a “hit list”. Misuari now lives in exile in Jeddah. The minister states that the Ipil attack was meant to provoke a war between Muslims and Christians. Ipil was once a Muslim majority town but it now has a Christian majority as people have moved in from other areas of the Philippines (Reuters, 04/10/95).
