ARMM Governor Nur Misuari meets with MILF chairman Hashim Salamat at Camp Abubakar. Arranged by the Libyan Ambassador to the Philippines, this is reported to be the first meeting between the two men in over twenty years. Salamat left the MNLF in 1978 over differences on how to wage the struggle. He then formed the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. Both Misuari and Salamat deny that they are joining forces. Meanwhile, the army says that an MILF attack resulted in the deaths of three Christian farmers in Sultan Kudarat province (Agence France Presse, 03/16/99).
