The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) has been designated by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. to serve as the chair of the ๐๐ช๐ต๐ถ๐ฎ๐ช๐ข๐บ๐ข๐ต ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐ฉ๐ข๐ฎ๐ด๐ถ๐ฏ ๐๐ญ๐ฅ๐ช๐ฌ๐ณ๐ข๐ข National Committee (SWANC) tasked with leading the countryโs efforts for the 650th Anniversary of Philippine Muslim History and Heritage in 2030.
Administrative Order No. 10, series of 2023, constituted the SWANC with the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) and the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH) as co-vice chairs, and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of National Defense (DND), Department of Tourism (DOT), and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) as regular members. The NHCP shall also serve as the Secretariat of the SWANC.
The 650th Anniversary of Philippine Muslim History aims to integrate and mainstream the historical and cultural experiences of our rich Islamic past into the greater narrative of Philippine history towards a nation reinvigoration of our national spirit, promotion of international comity, strengthening social awareness and inclusivity. The signing of the AO also coincided with the 643rd Anniversary of the Introduction of Islam in the Philippines that was commemorated by the NHCP with the unveiling of the historical marker declaring the Sheikh Makhdum Masjid in Simunul, Tawi Tawi as a National Historical Landmark.
